These Douglas Fir beams were an amazing find and are 2.75" thick, 13" wide and 25 feet long. These floor beams were salvaged many years ago from an old school that was taken down in Windsor Ontario. Due to the usage of the beams the building code required them to be 'clear' (free of knots) for structural stability reasons.
It is believed that these beams were shipped from the West Coast where Douglas Fir grows. Because of the size and clarity of these beams it is likely that the tree-stand from which they were harvested likely originated in the mid-late 1800's.
Steve came across these beams in October of 2009 while shooting a model portfolio and they were purchased from the property owner in August of 2015.
From a large dining or conference table, to coffee tables or even outdoor furniture with a Restoration Hardware style, these beams will make some spectacular furniture!
These beams may be a perfect fit for the Preston Machine Base!
